Low-Volume Systems

Elite Engineering combines the industry's most advanced reflow technology with the industry's most comprehensive design, resulting in a full range of systems to meet virtually any production requirement.   No other manufacturer offers this many features as standard equipment on any comparably priced system:

Ultra-High Mass Heater Panels for Maximum Insensitivity to Load Variance

High-Volume, Low-Velocity Air Flow; Ideal for Fine Pitch QFPs, BGAs & Flip Chips

Windows Based Control Software with Real Time Chart Recording, Alarms, Data-Logging
On-Line Storage Capacity for Thousands of Programmes and Temperature Profiles
The Industry's Most Advanced Process Monitoring and Alarm System
Stainless Steel Mesh Conveyor with 22" Usable Belt Width
Auto-Startup and Shutdown with Clock and Calendar Function
EPS Battery Backup for Safe Recovery During Power Loss
Free Commissioning and Initial on-site Training
SMEMA Compatibility

Available options include:

Programmable, Low-Mass, "SMART RAIL" Edge Pin Conveyor and Belt Interface
Inert Gas Blanketing Option

When it comes to reflow soldering, there is only one thing that separates the needs of the high-volume manufacturer from that of the low-volume manufacturer.  Not process control...not reliability...not even PCB size capacity...but simply...throughput.   Elite has made the reflow selection process just about as simple as you can make it, by offering four different systems that differ from one another only by their heated length and physical size (therefore their throughput capacity).  All other features, including conveyor width, are identical.  The greater the heated length, the faster the beltspeed that can be utilized to maintain an identical thermal profile as that of a comparable system with a shorter heated length.

Fully Adjustable Axial Lead Former Provides Clip-In and Stand-Off Forms With the Same Set of Tooling

Form axial components to almost any configuration with Elite Engineering's Format 2000 bench top lead forming system. Clip-ins, stand-offs, verticals, and 90° bends are all easily achieved at speeds of up to 20,000 pph.

The Format 2000 is easily adjusted to satisfy an almost limitless variety of axial forming applications. Lead spacing, lead diameter, leg length, body size, stand-off height, and form depth adjustments are each independent of the other, allowing uneven cut lengths, form centres, or vertical axial forms, if desired.

Lead diameters from 0.40 to 1.50mm (0.016" to 0.060") can be cut and formed to Mil-Spec standards. Since each lead is clamped before cutting and forming, damage or component stress is eliminated.

Components are fed into an adjustable conveyor where they are cut and formed in the various stages. The finished component exits the conveyor and is deposited in a specially designed component drawer. Scrap tape or excess lead material is separated from the finished components.

The standard tooling supplied with the Format 2000 accommodates all cut-only forms, horizontal 90° bends, clip-in and stand-off forms. To switch from clip-in to stand-off, operators need only reverse two standard dimpling inserts. Vertical form or flush-mount clip-in tooling are the only tooling options you may ever need.

The Cropelle DIP Processor straightens leads to the proper centre spacing for simpler hand insertion, and cuts leads to the proper length eliminating the need for pre/post solder trimming.  DIP packages with .300", .400", or .600" centres and lead counts from 8 pins to 40 pins can be straightened and cut with a single machine at speeds up to 15,000 pph.  Parts can be fed to and from standard IC tube packages.  Two dials adjust lead spacing and cut length to ensure perfect repeatability.  Interchangeable centre rails allow conversion for different body widths in minutes.  The conductive drive belt transports components through the various straightening and cutting stages, while a built-in counter maintains the total number of parts processed.

Straighten, Cut, and Form On One System

Straighten, cut and form to either gull wing (SMD) or clip-in configurations with the Formelle DIP processor.  DIPs with centre spacings of .300", .400", .600", .750", and .900", and lead counts of 8-40 pins can be processed tube-to-tube.  Centre spacing, cut length, and body height settings are all dial adjustable for maximum repeatability.  Two separate models are available:  The Formelle CI provides a clip-in form for part retention and includes adjustable crimp for stand-off heights from .071" - .197", whereas the Formelle GW converts conventional DIPs into an SMD configuration with an adjustable foot length and .045" stand-off height.  Like all Elite DIP Processing models, a conductive conveyor belt provides ESD protection.  The built-in counter also maintains the total number of parts processed.

Fixed and Adjustable Flat Pack Forming Systems

Cut and form flat packs to exact specifications with Elite Engineering's FP Series lead forming systems.   Circuit assemblers will enjoy the ease and precision in which FP systems prepare components for either thru-hole or surface mount applications.  Component manufacturers will also find FP tools and presses profitable tools for providing their customers the value-added convenience of ready-to-mount devices.  Interchangeable tools, mounted to your choice of a compact manual or pneumatic press, form leads with extreme accuracy and uniformity and provide burr-free cutting to precise, repeatable lead lengths.  The economical FP-1 press is hand-lever operated, while the FP-5 (shown at left) utilizes a heavy-duty, 3" stroke cylinder.  Dual, right and left hand interlock switches ensure maximum operator safety.

Fixed Tools Ensure Maximum Repeatability

Elite fixed flat pack tools are manufactured exactly to your forming specifications. Cutting and forming of all leads occurs simultaneously in a single press actuation, while the leads are always firmly clamped to prevent component damage or stress.  Adjustable stand-off height 0.00-6.35mm (0.000" - 0.250") is available on all tools.  Tools are designed and manufactured by our team of highly-experienced engineers and toolmakers.  All tools are made of hardened tool steel with a 60-62 Rockwell hardness for extended life and repeatability.  Tool changeover is performed in a matter of seconds through the use of two, unique hold-down clamps.

Adjustable Tools Offer Flexibility and Economy

A pair of adjustable flat pack formers is available for those seeking flexibility and economy when throughput is not of vital concern. The FP-1MAS adjustable tool cuts and forms leads on one side of the component per each press actuation.  A unique holding fixture ensures repeatability.  The FP-2MAS adjustable tool cuts and forms leads on two sides of the component per each press actuation.  Micrometer adjustments permit quick form changes.

PCB Assembly, Cut and Form and Form Only

  • Good Mechanical Component Retention

  • Repeatable Results

  • Reduced Rework

Elite's Multipoint Assembly Machines give consistent results board after board.

Using Multipoint machines not only gives reliable results but reduces the amount of rework. Additionally the assembled PCB can be transported from one area to another without the risk of components being dislodged. Form only or cut and form versions are available.

On completion of the component insertion all boards are consistently assembled with good mechanical joints similar to those achieved from auto insertion.

MK Series Tools Provide Pneumatic Cut, Bend or Swage

The Elite MK Series pneumatic hand tools cover a number of options: cut and bend, cut and swage, or cut only.  All are designed for post component assembly prior to soldering.  These tools are lightweight and offer ergonomic design preventing operator fatigue.  Unlike side cutters, the off-cuts from these tools drop to the PCB, eliminating flying lead waste.  The MK-3 tools feature exclusive trigger activated, scissor-type blades, manufactured of 60C Rockwell hardened tool steel, and won't scrape leads or mark circuit boards.  MK-3 tools provide cut and bend (or cut only) of component leads in a single stroke; the tapered head giving access to even the most densely populated underboard areas.  MK-6 tools feature exclusive trigger activated, V-type blades, swage the lead to typically twice the wire diameter (ensuring component retention) or cut leads flush to the PCB after soldering. All tools are ergonomically designed, thus eliminating operator fatigue, and also helping to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome.

360° Turnover PCB Assembly System

These rugged, self-contained assembly fixtures combine a heavy duty, tilt-proof base, adjustable 3-rail PCB frame and a dual snap-lock foam padded cover and are available in two sizes with 482x228mm (19" x 9") or 610x406mm (24" x 16"); capacity.  Both models offer full 360° rotation for "start to finish" assembly and processing of PC boards (component insertion through manual soldering).  Three movable PCB holding rails adjust easily and offer the capacity to assemble both multiple small and single large boards.  Parts are inserted, immobilized, and rotated 180° for clinching and/or soldering, then returned to their original position for removal of the finished PCB.  Frame locks at 15°, 30°, or 45° front and back.  A foam pad prevents component fallout.  Choose from standard, conductive, or silicon-treated, solder-safe foam padded covers.
